What is Salary Packaging?

Exempt Benefit Items

The Fringe Benefits Tax is a tax on certain benefits from your employer which do not include cash salary or wages. Within salary packaging, there are some items which are exempt from this tax.

LAFHA – Living Away From Home Allowance
If you are working and living away from your main residence, salary packaging can help reduce your costs and save tax.

Child Care Fees (In house)
An employee may salary package childcare fees in relation to childcare supplied by a registered childcare provider as an exempt item if it is located on the employer’s premises.

DIDO – Drive-In-Drive-Out
Employees who are considered Drive-in-Drive-out can have their travel expenses paid pre-tax.

FIFO – Fly-In-Fly-Out
If an employee is Fly-In-Fly-Out, they may salary package theses expenses, including flights.
